Privacy Policy
Walking Badges ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your data, specifically in relation to Google User Data.
1. Data Collection & Use
We access the following sensitive user data through the Google Health API:
- Step Count and Distance: We retrieve these metrics to calculate your progress and automatically award badges when you reach specific milestones.
- Authentication Tokens: We request access tokens to securely communicate with Google services on your behalf.
This data is used solely to provide and improve user-facing features, such as badge achievements, and home screen widgets.
2. Data Protection Mechanisms
We implement the following technical measures to protect your sensitive Google user data:
- Encryption at Rest: Sensitive authentication tokens and refresh tokens are stored encrypted on your device using Android's
EncryptedSharedPreferences(leveraging AES-256 GCM encryption backed by the Android Keystore). - Encryption in Transit: All data transferred between the Walking Badges app and Google API servers is protected using Secure Socket Layer (SSL/TLS) encryption via HTTPS.
- Access Control: Your data is stored within the application's private local storage. It is never uploaded to our servers or shared with external third parties.
3. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your health data and authentication tokens only as long as necessary to provide the app's functionality:
- Local Storage: Health data (steps and distance) is cached locally in a private database on your device.
- Deletion: You can disconnect your Google account at any time from the app's Settings menu, which immediately erases all stored authentication tokens. Uninstalling the app will also delete all locally cached health data.
4. Google API Limited Use Disclosure
Walking Badges' use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- We do not use your health data for advertising purposes.
- We do not sell your data to third parties.
- We do not use your data to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
5. Background Syncing & Notifications
The app performs background syncs to ensure your badges and widgets are up-to-date. This requires background processing permissions. We also send notifications to keep you informed about your progress; these can be managed in your device settings.
6. Your Rights
You can revoke access to the Google Health API at any time through your Google Account security settings or within the app's settings menu.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time and will notify you of any changes through in-app notifications. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
